Thomas Sloan
University of Massachusetts- Lowell
Thomas Sloan teaches operations management in the
College of Management at the University of Massachusetts- Lowell . He received a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the University of Texas at Austin as well as Master of Science and Ph.D. degrees from the University of California , Berkeley .
His current research focuses on sustainable operations, particularly in the area of medical devices. He has also conducted research on shop-floor control and production scheduling in the semiconductor industry. In the course of his research, he has worked with firms such as Intel, Motorola, AMD, and Sony.
His work has been published in academic journals such as the International Journal of Production Research, Production and Operations Management, IEEE Transactions on Semiconductor Manufacturing, Journal of the Operational Research Society, and IIE Transactions.
Dr. Sloan is a member of several professional organizations including the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS), the
Production and Operations Management Society (POMS), the
Decision Sciences Institute (DSI), and APICS—The Association for Operations Management. He is the faculty advisor for the Operations Management Group, which is the APICS student chapter at UMass Lowell. Prior to his graduate studies, he worked as a production manager for Frito-Lay, Inc.
